The Junior Skills Academy
The focus group are 6 to 12 years old. It is a hockey skills program that focuses on improving skating, puck skills, passing and receiving, shooting and checking. The program also focuses on developing individual tactics offensively and defensively.
Each session has a skating and puck skills focus. A station approach is used to maximize skill development for each player. Players are encouraged to work hard and to challenge their personal skill development.
Sessions also include a FUN component where players are given the opportunity in mini-game situations to apply the skill and tactical development they have been presented in the program.
Equipment needed: Skates, Helmet with face mask, Gloves, Elbow pads, Shin pads,
Stick, Sweat pants / hockey pants, individual water bottle with name.
A Goalie program is also presented where young goalies are given instruction and practice in developing fundamental goaltending skills with an emphasis on quality skating skills. A limited number of goalies are allowed in each program.
